Castle of Amfissa

Amfissa is a town in Phocis at Sterea Greece region. The Castle of Amfissa (also known as the Castle of Orias or Castle of Salona), is built on a hill near the city.

According to the tradition, it was built on the ruins of an ancient castle which was constructed by the cyclopes (in Greek mythology, cyclopes were giants with a single eye in the middle of their foreheads).

It is a mosaic of different cultures and civilizations (ancient Greek, Byzantine, Frank, Ottoman). Many objects that were found at the castle are exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Amfissa (Copper Age - Roman years).
