Other Meteora Monasteries

The Holy Monastery of Varlaam is the second big in size monastery. The monastery's museum displays an excellent collection of wood-carved crosses, relics,  icons and embroidered epitaphoi. The library of monastery holds  over 300 religious manuscripts.

The Holy Monastery of Rousanou  is dedicated to 'The Transfiguration' and it was founded in the 16th c. The Monastery of Rousanou is decorated with extraordinary frescoes. It is one of the most attainable.

The Holy Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapausas was founded in the beginning of the 16th c. It was decorated by the Cretan painter Theophanis Strelitzas or Bathas, in 1527. 


The frescoes of Agios Nikolaos are some of the most important in the Meteora.

The Holy Monastery of St. Stephen is easily accessible
. It was built in the 16th c. The old refectory of the convent is used as a museum of vestments and various religious objects. 

The Monastery of Holy Trinity
is perched atop a slender pinnacle and it is extremely difficult to reach. Most of monastery's treasures were looted in World War II.
