The Fortezza of Rethymnon

Rethymnon is one of the largest cities of Crete and a popular tourist destination. The Fortezza is the Venetian fortress of Rethymnon. It was built by the Venetians in the 1570s in order to protect the town from the Ottoman threat.

The Fortezza of Rethymnon is located on a hill in the centre of the old town and offers panoramic view. It has the shape of a star. The fortifications of the Fortezza and some buildings are well preserved and the monument is open for visitors.
