The old citadel (or else old fortress) of Corfu is a Venetian fortress constructed in the 15th century.
It
stands on the eastern side of the town and it is built with strong
fortifications surrounding its entire perimeter. The entrance to the
fortress is available through Spianada square.
The interior of the citadel has been restored recently and is in use for many cultural events.
The central high point of the fortress is an impressive clock tower. At
the botom of the observatory lies St. George's church. There's also
another small church inside the citadel called Madonna del Carmine.
