The Acherontas Gorge

The Acherontas Gorge (or pass of Kleisoura) is a relatively narrow gorge at Preveza prefecture. Acherontas (or Acheron) river flows through the gorge which is formed by the mountains of Paramythia and Souli.

According to Greek mythology, Charon led the souls of the dead via the Acheron river to Lake Acherousia.

The beautiful gorge and the river are part of the "Natura 2000" network. In some places the river flows slowly while in other places, the river flows very quickly through narrow passages. The gorge is  rounded with mountains and when it rains it becomes dangerous to cross.
